Zombies Can’t Use Stairs
Something occurred to me last night when I was watching the walking dead. Actually, it didn’t occur to me last night, it occurred to me today during the day.
I noticed, that none of the walkers actually went up or down the stairs. I mean, we could see them in stairwells and what have you, but it did not appear like they actually went up or down the stairs.
Remember the scene in the house?
With Rick and Carol downstairs the one walker in pajamas was upstairs and just rolled down pretty much to Carol’s feet? Carol was able to stab it in the head, no problem.
Those two hippies, Ann and Sam, came out of the bathroom and they were sort of surprised that there was somebody else in the house that wasn’t trying to kill them. The scene made me wonder if the Walker just was not aware that they were in the bathroom, or didn’t think to try to break the door down or something else altogether?
Who knows what happened up there and how Sam and Ana ended up in that room.
Over at the veterinary hospital, none of the walkers followed the gang up or down the stairs as they were trying to run away from them. Daryl and the gang were able to avoid a lot of the walkers by simply taking a stairwell.
Even after Daryl and the gang jumped out of the window and Bob nearly dropped the liquor bag, the walkers didn’t try to climb up on top of the roof or container or whatever it was that they were on top of. It didn’t even seem like the walkers tried to follow them when they jumped down off the thing and made a run for their car, which I’m assuming they did at some point.
Even Morgan, lived upstairs.
The stairwell was booby-trapped but the boobie-traps were more for humans than they were for walkers. Morgan understood that the walkers were not able to go up the stairs. He didn’t even have a door at the top of the stairwell. Morgan dedicated his boobie-traps to taking out whatever humans dared bother him in his lair. He did not seem concerned with walkers coming up the stairs to attack him.
I find the whole zombies can’t use stairs thing terribly interesting.
