The Walking Dead Episode 505: Self Help
The episode of The Walking Dead opens with the gang on the bus just riding along, having a good old time talking about Eugene’s mullet of all things. They’re driving along, when they pass a small herd of walkers. I guess they got distracted long enough that they didn’t notice an obstacle in the road and bus flips.
The flip, is one of those flips that you only see in movies where the bus goes airborne, lands on its side and no one is seriously hurt. After a brief moment they recover and have to fight/ ward off the small herd of walkers that they just passed. Abraham said that he took a good knock on the head but that he was O.K. to proceed and that was the only injury report from the ordeal. Abraham also happens to be the only one with an actual cut as well.
Next, they find refuge in a Barnes & Noble or some kind of bookstore. They get all setup and fortified, and then Eugene and Glenn have a little heart to heart about surviving and how the choice boils down to killing or working with the strong in order to survive.
I hate that it’s so dark that we can’t see anything. Just shadows on the screen and nothing else.
Anyway, Abraham says that he wants to turn in but that he wants to “get some ass first” and then he and Rosita start to have sex. Rosita says “he’s watching us again” and she tells Abraham that Eugene, is hiding in the self help section, watching them getting it on.
Tara finds Eugene creeping on Rosita and Abraham and starts to talk to him. Eugene confesses to Tara that he put glass in the fuel line of the bus and that he didn’t expect the bus to make it this far. Tara agrees to keep Eugene’s secret and then we cut to Glenn and Maggie. G&M are having a little heart to heart of their own. Before cutting to commercials, we see a shadow of some kind moving around in the back ground but we can’t tell who or what it is.
Throughout the show, they’ve been showing flashbacks of Abraham before he came to be on his mission to get Eugene to D.C.
Across the street from the bookstore, is a fire station with a fire truck parked out front. The gang makes a run for the fire truck and wants to try to take it with them. Amazingly, the fire truck, starts up. As if that’s not some kind of miracle.
Well, turns out it’s not really a miracle. The truck was blocking the door to the fire station, where there were a lot of walkers. Eugene ends up killing the lot by using the truck’s water hose. He hosed the walkers apart. After the melee, Abraham gets on top of the fire truck and sees a sign on the ground that says “Sick inside, left to die.”
Eventually, the gang gets the truck started and they take off down the road. The truck stops working what appears like a few miles down the road from town.
While they are stopped, Maggie and Eugene have a talk about Eugene’s mullet. Maggie thinks that Eugene wears the mullet because he wants to be different from everyone else. Maggie thinks that Eugene wears the mullet because he wants people to get to know him.
We get the first mention of the smell of the walkers at this point. Everyone makes a comment on the stench that is coming in the wind.
We see that there is a large facility of some kind with a lot of walkers milling about.
Abraham starts to lose his shit when they see that. He wants to push through so they can get Eugene to D.C. Glenn, Rosita and Maggie tell him that it’s crazy to push through and that they should go around.
Well, Abraham grabs Eugene and starts to shake him around and will not listen to the rest of the group saying that they can’t get through/ past the farm. Eugene gets shaken up, is visibly scared and he confesses that he’s not a scientist and that he doesn’t know how to stop the apocalypse and put things back to normal.
Time seems to stop when Eugene makes his confession.
We learn that Eugene lied all the way from Houston and that he lied because he wanted to get to D.C. so he could survive. We also learn, in the flashbacks, how Eugene and Abraham first met.
