The Walking Dead 509 – What Happened?
The episode opens up with Gabriel at what we presume to be Beth’s funeral. Noah is telling Rick that Beth was going to go with him to this new place that is supposed to be secure. It’s in South Carolina somewhere. The guys decide to go there.
New title sequence too.
So, on the road the gang goes. They have radios now. Tyreese, Noah, Rick, Michonne and Glenn are riding point in an old suburban. Carol and the report of the people are in a different car about 5 miles back. Tyreese is talking about road trips that they took when he was little. Noah has a twin brother.
They pull off the road and leave the suburban in the woods while they walk the rest of the way to the new camp that they are looking for. The place that they are going to is called Shirewood. They come up to the gates to the compound, but no one comes to meet them. Glenn climbs up a wall and shakes his head. This new camp, is gone. There are no apparent survivors.
Noah loses his grip on things and collapses in the middle of the street.
Rick calls back to Carol and says simply “we made it, it’s gone.” Apparently, neither Rick nor Glenn thought that the new place would still be there.
Rick confesses that he wanted to kill Dawn, regardless of Beth. Rick said that he wanted to get Noah back to this place, the place where Noah came from, because this is where Beth wanted to bring Noah to. Rick didn’t know whether the place would still be there or not, but he just wanted to complete this mission.
Tyreese tries to tell Noah that this isn’t the end. Tyreese says that he wanted to die at one point, but now he’s thankful to be alive because he was able to save Judith when she needed him to. Noah gets up, and starts to run at full sprint down the street.
Glenn, tells Rick that he is just barely coming to grips with what happened since the prison and since getting back together with Maggie.
Meanwhile, Tyreese catches up to Noah. Noah is stopped in front of a house and says “this is my house.” They walk in, and there’s a body on the floor. While Noah is bent over the body praying, Tyreese walks down the hallway and finds another body, and what appears to be a trapped walker comes out behind Tyreese and bites him.
Noah kills the little kid and runs out to get help, leaving Tyreese to bleed out. Tyreese is hallucinating and sees Martin who was the guy that tried to kill Judith, Bob, Lizzie, Meeka and even the Governor. Suddenly, the Governor turns into a walker that attacks Tyreese. Tyreese manages to fight the walker off, but only after letting himself get bit in the arm again.
Back with Rick and Michonne, Michonne is making the argument that they should build up the walls of the camp by taking down the trees around the compound. The team realizes that there is no hope or point in rebuilding the camp. Michonne then starts to argue that they should make a run for Washington. Washington is where it’s at.
Rick says “we should go to Washington” and just then, they hear Noah screaming calling for help. They go off to help him and make a run back to Noah’s house.
Meanwhile Tyreese is still hallucinating, and now Beth has joined the group singing, and now the Governor is talking smack to Tyreese. Tyreese stands up to the Governor and tells him that he didn’t show him anything. Tyreese seems to want to live. Tyreese keeps starts repeating “it’s not over” and “I’m not giving up!” Tyreese is imaging the girls holding his arm out, but it turns out to have beem Rick and the gang holding out his arm so they could chop it off.
The gang then makes a fast bug out from the camp. They slice and dice their way through a small herd of walkers back to the suburban. While riding back to meet up with the rest of the group, Tyreese is still seeing the hallucinations. The sun fades away.
The suburban pulls off to the side of the road and the gang pull Tyreese’s body out of the car.
We’re back at the funeral, only now we know that it’s Tyreese’s funeral and not Beth’s.
