The Walking Dead Episode 304 – The Killer Within – Synopsis
What follows, is my spoiler filled recap, or synopsis, of episode 304 of the Walking Dead.
The episode opens with a mysterious person carrying a gas tank and picking up a deer carcass. This same person, then leads some walkers to the deer carcass that he just moved. While the walkers are munching on the deer, our mystery person, proceeds to sabotage the fence and cuts the lock and chain that secured an inner courtyard that Rick and the gang had previously cleared of walkers.
Whoever it is, is really dirty and is wearing a prisoner uniform.
I’m not sure if it’s in a flashback or not, but the next scene we see, is the one from the preview for this episode. The one where Glenn and Maggie are in the tower.
The other prisoners in the jail, Oscar and Axl, come out to meet up with Rick and the rest of the gang to try and plead to let them join up with our people. The gang decides that they do not want the convicts to join the group. Mostly, because they don’t want the convicts to try to team up and take over the prison.
Back in Woodbury, Michonne is inspecting one of the vehicles that The Governor brought back to town from the National Guardsmen. Michonne, in my opinion, has figured out that The Governor most likely killed the Guardsmen and that it’s not likely that the Guardsmen got overrun by “biters.”
Back at the prison, Lori and Hershel’s other daughter brought Hershel some crutches. Hershel understands that he needs to be mobile if he wants to live so he wants to be mobile as quickly as he can. Carl, of all people, has started fashioning a prosthetic leg for Hershel.
We cut to the outside of the prison, and we see Glenn, Rick and Daryl are going out to get firewood so they can start burning the walkers that they’ve already killed. While they are outside the fence, we see that Hershel and the rest of the girls have come out into the courtyard to get some sun and let Hershel get around and practice on his new crutches.
At this point, we know that the opening of the gate that we saw at the beginning was not a flash back. Walkers have gotten in to the “safe” place, the courtyard, that the gang had created for themselves.
While they are under walker attack, our mystery person/ saboteur managed to get the backup generator going and has also managed to set off the prison’s general alarm. While the alarm is going off, there are more walkers coming to the prison listening to the siren call of the prison’s alarm.
Back in the courtyard, we see that Hershel managed to get moving and actually knocked a walker down with his crutch. Meanwhile, Carl actually took out more walkers than Maggie and anyone else in the group that was stuck in the courtyard.
T-Dawg got bit in the melee. We hardly knew ye T-Dawg.
Maggie leads Carl and Lori into Cell Block C, but there ware walkers everywhere. Carl takes point and while trying to get back to their cell block, they get cornered by walkers and Lori goes into labor.
Carl has actually gotten to be a bit of a leader and takes over getting Maggie and the now in labor Lori to safety.
Meanwhile, Rick, Glenn, Daryl, Oscar and Axl make it back to the safe block only to discover that Lori, Carl and Maggie are not there. Rick flips a tit and they split up to go find the backup generator so they can turn off the alarm.
Carl leads the girls into a utility closet or corridor of some kind and Lori, is in full on labor.
Maggie tells Lori to take off her pants and that they were going to deliver the baby right now. Lori starts to push, Carl is freaking out, and Maggie is trying to help, but not really helping much. It looks like there’s something wrong with the baby since there was a lot of blood coming out. It could just be a torn perineum, but what do I know? I’m no doctor.
T-Dawg and Carol are still trying to make it back to safety, and T-Dawg sacrifices himself so that Carol can get through and get back to the safe block.
Back in Woodbury, Andrea is sharing a drink with The Governor and as they are saying their goodbyes, we learn that The Governor’s name is Philip. Andrea, does not want to leave Woodbury, and seems to talk Michonne into staying for an extra couple of days.
Since the prison’s alarm is going off, Rick and his crew are making a run to shut off the backup generator so the alarm will stop. While trying to shut down the generator, we get to see that the saboteur is Andrew, the other prisoner that made a run for it with Thomas in episode 2. Rick and Andrew scuffle and Rick loses his gun.
The saboteur, ends up bringing up Rick’s greatest fears to bear of the prisoners wanting to take back the prison. Oscar picks up Rick’s gun and Andrew tries to encourage Oscar to shoot Rick so that they can “take back their house.” Oscar chooses sides, and he chose Rick’s side. Daryl, being the badass that he is, had Rick’s back and was coming up behind Oscar and was prepared to knife Oscar.
Maggie ends up cutting Lori open, following her old c-section scar, and delivers Lori’s baby. We are led to believe that Lori, does not survive the birth and that Carl, shoots Lori to keep her from turning into a walker.
But, I’m not 100% convinced that it happened like that.
No matter what actually happened, Carl, will need some serious therapy after today.
