The 8 Best Comic/Show Comparisons from The Walking Dead Season 7A
The Walking Dead Season 7 has so far been packed with infamous comic scenes that fans have been waiting to see on screen for years. From Negan’s head-bashing to Maggie’s punch to Spencer’s guts we break down the top eight comic moments below:
8. Ezekiel’s Confession
It turns out the self-anointed king with a pet tiger and medieval accent is not what he seems! Shocking! With a nearly identical appearance to his comic counterpart, Ezekiel confesses that his royal persona is merely a character meant to provide hope and safety to his people. (Side note: In the comics Ezekiel confesses his identity to Michonne, not Carol).
7. Maggie’s Punch
Let’s face it, Gregory was LONG overdue for a solid punch to the jaw. In both the comic and show Gregory labels Negan and Saviors as “reasonable,” causing Maggie to see red and give him the ole right there Fred. HOWEVER, this happens much later in the comics when Alexandria, The Hilltop, and The Kingdom are planning a war against Negan and his men.
6. Negan’s Iron
Quick lesson from Episode 707 – defy Negan, get burned! Just like the comics, Negan discovers one of his wives cheating on him with her former lover Mark and decides to make an example of him by pressing an iron to his face. Ouch! This went down nearly the same way as the comics and reinforced Negan’s authority over his people.
5. Negan’s Visit
Time to pay up! Exactly like the comics, Negan arrives at the gates of Alexandria with his Saviors to take half of their stuff all while Rick reluctantly holds Lucille. Although there were some minor additions to the show (like Michonne’s shooting practice and Rosita and Spencer’s supply run) the episode nearly mirrored the source material:
4. Carl & Negan’s Heart-to-Heart
Episode 707 gave us another great comic moment when Negan and Carl open up to each other. Impressed with his bravery, Negan challenges Carl to embrace his badass side by removing his bandage and not taking sh*t from anyone. From the dialogue all the way down to the vase, this scene was straight out of the source material.
3. Carl’s Attack
This episode was so full of comic comparisons we had to add another scene from 707 to our list! The notorious moment of Carl infiltrating The Sanctuary and shooting up The Saviors happened in the same glorious fashion in the show as the comics. Sure, in the comics Jesus wasn’t involved and Carl killed more Saviors, but the rest was the same.
2. Spencer’s Guts
Walking Dead comic fans saw Spencer’s demise from a mile away. Although some comic deaths are changed for the show (see: Andrea, Abraham, Carol), Spencer’s vocal opposition to Rick throughout the season had only one logical ending. However monstrous Negan may appear, he DOES respect loyalty over subversion. While Rick was out gathering supplies, Spencer suggested to Negan that he should be the leader instead. Unfortunately for Spencer, this cowardly move ended in Negan gutting him in the street. Fans were delighted that this awesome comic moment made it on the show.
1. Glenn’s Death
The Season 7 Premiere delivered on one of the most anticipated deaths in The Walking Dead series: Negan’s brutal beating of Glenn. Despite altered circumstances (such as Abraham not being killed, Daryl and Sasha not existing, and Heath being a part of the lineup), the scene paralleled the comics shot-for-shot:
