Spoiler Laden Recap: Arrow on the doorpost
The episode, “Arrow on the doorstop,” opens with the gang coming up to some silos. Rick and Hershel are in the SUV, and Darryl is on his Harley.
The gang is weary as they approach a building on the grounds. Rick, enters the building with his gun cocked. That’s where he first sees the Governor coming out from the shadows. Much like Caprica 6 in the opening scene of the new Battle Star Galactica.
There’s a small wooden table in the middle of the room.
The Governor says that he could’ve killed them all, but he didn’t. The Governor and Rick have a disagreement about what happened back at the prison, but the Governor offers to remove his weapon first to show that he’s willing to negotiate in good faith.
Rick won’t take off his gun, which is a good move in my opinion.
The Governor sits down, at the table, and there’s a shotgun taped to the table.
Cut to outside, Darryl says things don’t feel right, and tells Hershel to keep the car running. That’s when the Governor’s Expedition shows up. Andrea comes out of the Expedition and is surprised that the Governor is already there.
Cut to the prison, Merle says that they should go out to where the Governor is and hit them hard. Glenn says that he’s not up for that, at this time. Merle, tells Carl, that his dad’s head will be on a pike soon.
Back at the conclave, things are going south fast. Rick proposes that they split the territory at the river. No one crosses the boundary and they leave each other alone.
Rick tells the Governor that the Governor is nothing more than the town drunk that ripped down his fence. The Governor tries to get into Rick’s head by telling him that he’s caring for what could be his partner’s baby and that he failed to see the devil beside him.
Rick says that he’s very well seen the devil that is beside him.
Outside, the gang hears some walkers coming up. They band together and take care of them, in a sort of competition to see who is better at killing them. Andrea actually goes first and kills the first walker. Then the Daryl and Martinez go off and share a cigarette that they just found in one of the walker’s pockets. Daryl and Martinez share a moment and realize that they will likely be shooting at each other soon.
Milton wants to see Hershel’s stump, and Hershel jokes that Milton should buy him a drink first.
The Governor tells Rick that he would kill everyone he knows to preserve what he has built at Woodbury. Governor tells Rick a little bit about his backstory. He tells Rick about being at work, taking shit from a shit boss when he got a call about his wife having been in an accident. The wife had called him and asked him to call her back.
The Governor is haunted by the thought of what did she want?
Merle, wants to head out and go to the conclave and protect his brother. Glenn, stands up to him and Beth is the one that actually brings things down by shooting into the air.
Andrea, is beginning to realize that the Governor is a bad person. She doesn’t want to go back to Woodbury, but she’s not keen on going back to the prison.
The Governor tells Rick that he’s impressed with the weapons cache that he hauled back. He tells Rick, that he wants what Rick has, and even though his people are not battle tested like Rick’s people are, he has more of them.
The Governor does not want Rick to move on, he wants them to stay where he can keep his one good eye on them.
The Governor wants Rick to give up Michonne.
Back at the prison, Merle talks to Michonne. He says that the people at the prison are not killers, like he and Michonne are or like the Governor’s people are.
Maggie and Glenn have a little heart to heart in the cage. Glenn apologizes for not treating Maggie right after they got back from Woodbury. They have it out and then, instead of staying on watch, they decide to bump uglies.
Back at the conclave, Rick is trying to figure out why the Governor wants to kill Michonne. When the Governor threatens Rick, and Carl and Judith, he means it. Rick is seriously considering giving up Michonne.
The Governor and Rick agree to reconvene at noon, in two days’ time.
Everyone goes back to their respective camps.
Back at Woodbury, the Governor gives orders to shoot everyone on sight, except for Michonne. He wants to kill Michonne himself. Milton over hears the orders and says that what the Governor is planning is a massacre, but the Governor says that it would be, but not on their side.
The Governor says “no way are they going to live side by side with us.”
Back at the prison, Rick tells the gang that the Governor wants them all dead, and that they are going to war. Rick does not mention the part about the Governor wanting Michonne. Rick does tell Hershel about the out that the Governor provided him. He doesn’t believe that the Governor will let them be even after they hand over Michonne.
