Humans vs Zombies
So, I was thinking about something that I read on I think it was cracked or some other similar website. They were talking about how they know that a zombie apocalypse would fail in a matter of a few days and things would never get to a situation like on The Walking Dead.
The argument was essentially, that humans rose to the top of the food chain, because of our ability to use tools. Humans are not the fastest nor the strongest nor the anything of any of the animals on this planet. What humans are, is that we are the ones that use tools the best.
A zombie, is just a human that can’t use tools therefore the battle of humans vs zombies would be over quickly. That assumption, is based on humans using tools and the zombies not.
I think that one of the most frightening scenes in the walking dead was in the second episode of the show.
The away team was hiding inside that department store, looking at a horde of zombies trying to break through a glass door and into the store. Most of the zombies, were just bumping into the glass or hitting the glass with their hands. Except for this one zombie.
That one zombie grabbed a rock and started slamming it against the glass door and the glass started to crack. That was the moment when you realized the difference between zombies and humans.
Zombies that can use tools, are infinitely more dangerous.
In the beginning, that was the thing that made the TWD zombies most frightening to me. It wasn’t just the fact that they were zombies and they would have just poured through that glass door to eat you. It was the fact that some of them had the ability to use tools, at least they did in the first season.
So the whole thing about zombies using tools or humans using tools I think has some validity. Although, having said that, I’m not quite sure that all zombies would lose their ability to use tools.
The most frightening, in my opinion, would be former army soldiers that are now zombies. I think they would be the scariest. Why? Because of the way that soldiers are trained and drilled about using their weapons.
Soldiers are trained to the point that no matter how physically tired or mentally exhausted they may be, i.e. just from sheer “muscle memory” they can field dress and use their weapons.
I’m not sure that being a zombie would make a soldier forget how to use their gun.
What do you think?
